I keep my computer organized by labeling and creating folders. I also delete files that I no longer need to save space. On the internet I create bookmarks to access web sites quicker. I use a hierarchal system. For example I make sub-folders in my picture folder to store different types of pictures.
Tagging is the act of assigning keywords to a piece of information. It helps describe the item and find it again when someone searches the tag. An example of tagging would be adding tags on youtube videos so when someone searches the word the video comes up.
Social Bookmarking is a method for internet users to organize, store, manage, and search for bookmarks of resources online. An example would be the web site "Digg."
These two items are important in today's digital age because they both make information easier to find.

Weekly Tech Article 4/29
Scientists have developed a new laser powered chemical technique that can take dozens of samples from a single strand of hair. Using this new information, forensic scientists can now determine what somebody ate or where they went by just analyzing their hair. These results are accurate up to the hour. They formed a new way to differentiate carbon isotopes found in the hair using an ultraviolet laser that breaks up the material rather than burning it like current methods. They say your hair is a record of carbon ratios and one scientist said he could guess what country you've been to by studying your hair. They are currently working on lasers for oxygen, sulfur, and nitrogen which would be even more accurate.

The Brazilian police are getting a new technological update in the form of new "cyborg" glasses. These glasses are designed to spot criminals in crowds and are able to scan up to 400 faces per second, 50 yards to 12 miles away while using 46000 biometric points to help identify a correct match. The faces are scanned with a tiny camera built inside the glasses and are checked in a database of criminals. If a match is found a red light blinks notifying the cop. This allows the cop to arrest the person without the need for questioning or searching for documents. They will be used for the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Summer Olympics which will be hosted in Rio de Janeiro.

Billionaire Richard Branson announced his latest project called Virgin Oceanic. He plans to build a submarine that will reach the most unexplored and deepest points of the oceans in the world like the Mariana Trench. The submarine is modeled after an airplane and will be able to resist 13 million pounds of pressure across its surface which is made of carbon fiber and titanium. It weighs 8,000 pounds and has the ability to dive 350 feet per minute. He hopes it will be of use to scientists to study microbes and sea floor geology.
